Polylines and circles follow basic geometrical rules. A circle is by definition a closed linear entity, polylines can be closed as well. When they both are closed they basically are the outline of an area. With the 'Merge Polylines & Circles' command you can merge them effectively joining the two areas they outline. It saves you a lot trimming.
